Say ‘Hello’ to Sylvester, Tiger and Fila. Three unique, special cats from the Western Cape. Fila is a beautiful tuxedo cat and Sylvester and Tiger are both tabbys. Hmmm, three cats in one house, sounds familiar. Here’s what their owner had to tell us about this furry bunch.

Last weekend was our annual sleigh ride to see Santa. Surprisingly we ran into the same barn cat we met last year around the same time. Nice to see she was doing well. We still didn’t find out her name as it was too busy with all the visitors. Maybe we will next year. This year our feline friend had four to five rabbits to chase around. The rabbits seemed to be friendly and playful and certainly kept our barn cat well occupied. It was fun to watch and also the first time I had ever seen rabbits and cats playing together.

We met this out-going cat while going on a sleigh ride to Santa’s Village located near Milton, Ontario. After our visit with Santa we went into a barn that was set-up to be an indoor playground for the kids.
We met our friendly barn cat shortly after going into the barn to play. She or He joined us while we played in the barn and was obviously used to meeting strangers since we became friends almost right away.
Unfortunately we didn’t get a name (let’s call him ‘Milton’ for now) but we had a lot of fun hanging out together.
Milton happily greets us as we get inside the Barn to have some fun on the indoor playground.

Meet Blanche. The Scene-stealing Old Lady.
It was January when we rescued our pure white DSH from a Newmarket Humane Society shelter in 1994. We were told she was approximately a year old and had been found wandering in the chill winter weather.
We should have had an inkling that she would be a scene-stealer. To get my attention, she extended her paw through the bars of her cage and snagged my sweater. I was smitten and so was my husband. We already had my cat, Gilbert and wanted another to call “Sullivan”, but here was no Sullivan!
She needed a name befitting the eccentric beauty that she is and we came up with the name Blanche. It’s been nearly 14 years and now we call her “The Old Lady” or “Queen B”.
Blanche is a true eccentric beauty.

Meet Spice. We’d like to welcome Spice into the Band of Cats circle of friends.
Meet Gilbert. One smart Godzilla.
Ah, Gilbert! He’s my boy. I hand picked him from a litter of brown tabbies. His mother was a pregnant stray that my friend took in and he was the only black kitten. He came to live with me when I moved out of my parents’ house at the age of 31 (back in 1994). As my husband and I were first getting to know each other, Gilbert became a part of our relationship. He was my companion, my symbol of liberty and my challenge.
Say “Hello” to Gilbert as he enjoys a nice toasty sunbath!

Meet Daisy, aka – The Spitfire
Next we have Daisy. Daisy was also a rescue, though that was not apparent at first.

Back in 1995, when we moved to a small town north of Guelph, my husband made the mistake of wandering into the local pet store (not a place we would normally frequent, you understand) on the main drag. We already had 2 cats in a one-bedroom apartment in a century home and we really did not need another cat. (Who ever really needs another animal?)

Here they come!
Meet the Mortensen Cats of Kitchener, Ontario (which isn’t too far from us, so we may drop in regularly). There’s Red, Daisy, Gilbert and Blanche. They’re the newest cats in the Band of Cats circle of friends. These cats live in The Hyggehus, which means they reap the benefits of cozy Danish comfort and get to lounge around in front of a warm fire on cold evenings. I have to say, they are some of the most spoiled cats we’ve ever met, but they are certainly not boring!
Each of the Mortensen Mob has a story and their owners love to talk about them. In fact, their Mistress, Kat likes to write poetry about all kinds of things and has even written a personalized poem for each of them. So snuggle up to the fire (or at least a cup of something warm) and let us introduce you firstly to Red:
Red the big Norwegian Forest Cat mellows out under a toasty duvet.
Red, a mix of madness, mayhem and mellow.
Red was rescued by my husband and me from a shelter back in the year 2000. He won my heart with his golden eyes, his luxurious fur and his massive, sweeping tail.

We had a relaxing few days at the end of our trip just hanging around Sita’s place and doing whatever. It was nice not having to worry about anything for a while. It’s sort of what a cat’s life is like; at least for Sita.
While we were relaxing on the porch watching the late afternoon sun dip down behind the trees and enjoying a cool drink, Sita decided to join us and do some of her own relaxing too.
Sita’s home is a nice secluded, quite place that’s perfect for kicking back and cleansing the soul. For a few hours, time stood still and we didn’t have a care in the world. It was a cool Cat Zen place to be.
This is our final post on Sita, and it’s a good one! Lot’s of pics of Sita’s enjoying her Cat Zen afternoon on the porch and a couple other spots around the house.
Our stay with Sita and her family was amazing. We’ll be looking forward to our next visit and getting away from it all again.

Here are some more pics from our visit with Sita in Vernon, B.C. OK, so she wasn’t on a hot “Tin†roof, but the title just sounded too good to pass up.
Sita has easy access to the roof at her place and uses it as another means of escape from Roxy, the family dog. Poor Roxy. Cats also love high vantage points so it’s a win, win situation for her.
From the roof Sita gets a nice high place to scope out the area and a peaceful retreat from Roxy’s over zealous playfulness.
