Photography is all about timing. To get that unique, cool shot you need to be in the right place at the right time, even if it is for just a split-second. Capturing that special image at just the right time before the moment is lost forever can be a very difficult thing to do.

Dax has an interesting thing he likes to do from time to time. He washes the windows. At least that is what it looks like to us.

It’s cute to watch, but he always did it while we’re in the house so we only saw his back and not much else. This is the first time we saw him do it while we we’re outside looking in and it made for some funny pictures plus we could get a good look at his face and paws.

I would say this is a little on the expensive side for a cat toy, but it’s hilarious to watch. If you don’t mind claw marks on your screen maybe you can share your laptop with your cat or kitten while you’re not using it?

Jasmine followed her nose into a nice pair of winter boots the other day. She loves all kinds of footwear, especially our winter boots. She strode into the kitchen gave me a quick glance and dove into the boots.

It was funny watching how much she enjoyed playing around with them. At one point she almost completely disappeared in one boot.

Jade’s box obsession continues. Here she is in her latest find. We left a box on the floor from a small framed print that came in the mail and Jade was quick to investigate.

It was a little on the small side, even for Jade, but that was okay with her. No box is too small (except maybe a jewelry box) or too big for Jade.

At one point it looked like Jade was trying to pack herself up for shipping as if she had been sold on ebay. So, we made a fun lolcats picture. You can see and vote on our lolcats picture here!

As soon as she got in the box she was out of the box, if you know what I mean. Being in and out of the box at the same time was a refreshingly new experience for Jade. It’s a box; it’s a matt. This is a box that’s two things in one. Cool.

This is Dax. A fun loving cat who is playful, good with kids, easy going, talkative and, from time to time, can be kind of, well… a little silly to say the least.

Take the other day for instance. Dax was hanging out on the couch as you can see in the first picture. He got up and started doing some regular cat stuff. Scratch the scratch post, walk around aimlessly, meow at nothing, lie down, get up, lie down again.

Then the silly stuff started. Dax wanted to wash his paws. All he had to do was sit down and lick his paws like any other cat would. Not Dax. That wasn’t silly enough. There had to be a sillier way to do it.

So Dax decided he would clean while lying on his side with his paw above his head. Then swing his paw down and try to lick them that way. Brilliantly silly stuff!

I could go on but I think now would be a good time to look at some pictures so you can see exactly how silly Dax’s silly cat moment was.

Here’s a look into the mind of a cat and dog by way of a page from each of their dairys. The differences are not to surprising but very funny. Especially the cat of course.

If this is an example of what one of our cats would say in a Dairy entery, it would be Jasmine. She takes every chance she gets to run out the front or back door.

The Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an Attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities.

However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and Snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He has obviously gone mad.

The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the Guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an Elevated Cell, so he is safe. For now.

Our last set of outtakes where so much fun, we decided to make it a regular feature here on Band of Cats.

Since we’re always trying new things with the camera there’s always a few shots that don’t quite work out but are still kind of interesting in their own unique way.

Like the Joker said in Batman, “If you wanna make an omlette, you gotta break a few eggs.” These are some of our ‘broken eggs’ but worth keeping.

Therefore, each month we’ll be collecting up the more abstract and accidental pictures of cats we taken and letting everyone take a look.

With all the pictures taken of the cats there’s bound to be a bunch that just don’t work out the way we had hoped they would. You win some , you loose some.

Rather than letting them go by the way-side, I thought I would share some of the finer moments when the Band of Cats weren’t cooperating or the camera decided to take on a life of its own.
