Jade is one of the more active cats in the ‘band’. When it’s time to play around the house, she’ll travel every inch of the house. One of the stranger places Jade will go is behind our entertainment center. She’ll walk in through the Video shelf and out through the back then shoot up the stairs and out of sight.

Jade is always leaping, climbing, traversing or running from one place to another. She’s a busy cat.

Jade’s sleeping is as unique and individual as her playing. I came across Jade sleeping on the couch the other day. She had sunk right into the cushion as if she had just plunked herself down from being over run. A poster cat for extreme exhaustion!

For an indoor cat a window can be the only link to the outside world. It’s proof that there is something more beyond their enclosed domain. The amount of activity going on just outside any window can become endless entertainment for a cat.

Everything from birds, to bugs to clouds draws their attention? Just what are they looking for? Is it something specific or is it just simple cat curiosity? What lurks in the shadows? What can they see?

Jasmine is fascinated by what’s going on out the back window.

The fascination cats have with windows and what lies beyond is all part of their daily routine. There is always something out there that draws them back. Maybe it’s the new frontier calling them; urging them to seek out new worlds, to boldly go where no cats has gone before. [Insert Star Trek theme music here]

Sitting high above on the open stairway Jade sees all.

From her high post above the living room Jade looks down upon those below and scoffs, “Ha, you are not worthy of thee. Bask in my glory and welcome your new emperor!”

That’s right Jade had another one of her entertaining moments on the stairway again. She had conquered the living room and was over seeing her new empire.

It was a short lived rule with a little Jade style silliness on the side.

Surprising to say it was void of any catnip. Jade is just one of those cats that can go full-goose bozo with or without it.

Further to say she is just so darn fun-loving and playful.

Let me set the scene for you on this one. The kids were having a ball playing in the TV room with all their toys. The place was a zone; toys everywhere, lot’s of noise - crazy busy fun!

Most of the cats are used to this but Jade avoids these hectic sessions like the plague and is nowhere to be seen. She’s not one for extreme commotion.

It was time to clean up the toys and get ready to go out for the day. The last thing I expected to see was Jade. But there she was sitting amongst all the clutter inside a toy drum looking at me as if this was something she does all the time.

It was a surprise to see her there and pretty funny as well. I don’t know if it was her way of telling us to clean up the mess or her uncontrollable urge to be in the drum. She loves boxes and this drum was like a box, except cooler!

Either way it was a great photo opportunity.

Jade does her version of a drum solo. It was the last thing any of us expected.

Our cats are into their meals so much that they come to us an hour before dinner time. You’d think there was a sale on catnip and they needed to be the first in line before the store opened.

When feeding time finally arrives, the cats hover around their bowls with so much anticipation we can barely fill them with food.

I’m sure it’s not because we starve our cats or our fabulous company so I’m thinking they must really like their food.

Two Main Eating Goals

We’re big on nutrition and want to be sure our cats eat right, even if it costs a bit more. It sure beats paying those vet bills later on. You know what they say about prevention. But we also want their food to taste good. If you can cover these two areas you’ll be sure to have very few troubles getting your cats to eat.

Meals are usually over in a matter of minutes. If one cat finishes before the others they usually take over the bowl of another cat that is still eating. Dax eats so fast sometimes we have to remind him to chew his food. Jade likes to eat by herself and will stand up on her back legs to get to the food faster.

The Cat Food we feed our Cats 

The cats have been eating dry food for the most part but we try to keep a balanced mix of moist and dry food. We get our cat food from the vets. It’s called Hill’s Prescription Diet w/d. They offer many different types of cat food depending on your cat’s nutritional needs.

Start at their home page and look around. If you’re interested in switching your cat’s food, talk to your vet about using Hill’s.

Jade always comes into the computer room every night for a visit when someone is working late. Most of the time I assume she’s looking for a late night snack.

Tonight I think she had a different agenda. She jumped onto the desk and started hitting the keys on the keyboard. She then just looked at me as if to say, “This room isn’t big enough for the two of us, so one webmaster has gotta go and it ain’t gonna be me.”

Frankly, I think she’s been coming in to see me all those nights so she can learn how to run a web site and eventually boot me out. Nah! She’s too nice to plot against me like that. Right?

Anyway, here’s Jade in the midst of her hostile take over.

Cats love sun baths. Our cats are no different. Every sun beam that comes in the house usually has a cat in it. There are lots of places in the house to catch a few rays but the best spot in the house for soaking up the sun is in the south side of the kitchen.

In the mid-afternoon the Sun streams through the backdoor of the kitchen and also through the large window right next to the backdoor. The big matt at the backdoor gets a big blast of sun.

What can be better than some brilliant sun rays on a nice warm rug where the cats can stretch-out, hang-out or simply take a nap? And they do just that, big time!

Here’s the best part. The cat food and water bowls are right under the kitchen window. No wonder it’s turned into one of the cats top 10 favorite things to do.

Jade is our little tortoise shell cat. She is a cat of many moods and faces as are most cats for that matter. Truly a wonder of feline-dom. When Jade was a kitten she loved visitors. Now she runs and hides from anyone coming in the house. She used to be a very outgoing, social cat but now Jade comes out of her little hiding spots only when we are visitor-less or she’s hungry.

If jade is anything she is entertaining and an attention grabber with all her different antics. Too bad our friends never get to see how much fun she really is.

OK, I can hear it now. “So what, they’re just eating bowls”. Good point; but let me set the scene for you. We used to have what we thought were nice eating bowls with little fish guys on the side. They were half the height of the new bowls and about the same width.

It’s a cat’s life. Our cats spend a lot of time sleeping. Being one of their most favorite activities, cats will sleep 2/3 of their lives away. In fact, our cats are all sleeping right now as I write this. I wish I could say that about myself too. In general cats will sleep about 14 to 18 hours a day which sounds like our cats.
