Yoda, the Cat with Four ears
He lives in Chicago with his owners Ted and Valerie. They found him in a local bar where they were passing around a kitten in a cage in hopes of finding someone to take him home. When Ted and Valerie walked in, the kitten crawled up on Ted’s shoulder and fell asleep. It seems that Yoda chose his new owners without giving them a choice in the matter.
But all was good as Ted and Valerie fell for the kitten on the spot and the rest is history.

So how do these people do it? Well, most of the time it’s just plain luck. Other people actually take their camera with them everywhere. If something happens, they’re ready for it. You never know when the opportunity for a cool shot might present itself.
It also helps to have the right camera for the job. In order to get these types of shots you’ll need a good camera that can freeze time with fast shutter speeds. Most compact digital cameras these days have a slight delay between clicking the shutter button and actually taking the picture. They are getting better but your best bet is a semi-professional digital SLR.
]]>After searching all over I was beginning to think that Spooky didn’t want to be found and would come home when he was ready. I planned to keep looking but I was getting quite discouraged without being able to find him anywhere.
On Wednesday evening were busy getting the house ready for some guests and I was planning to go out for another look around the area for Spooky after I was finished.
We were missing some wheels for a bed we were setting up in the spare room. My wife decided to run out to the store and pick-up a set to save time. When she came back she had a surprise. Spooky was with her!!

Spooky back home safe and sound
While she was driving back home she saw Spooky sitting under a car in the back lane. She stopped and managed to coax him out and got him to come to her. I guess he was done being an outdoor cat and was finally ready to come home.

Dax welcomes Spooky home with growls and hissing
Spooky grabbed on to her all the way back to the house. I was downstairs and heard her come in. She was talking to someone. When I heard her say Spooky’s name I ran upstairs and was amazed to see him there in the kitchen.
He was very happy to be home and was fine despite the fact he had been out on his own for five days and nights. “You’re a sight for sore eyes Spooky”, I told him.

Ready for a bath and a good meal

Relaxing after his 5 day outdoor adventure

Happy to be home
It was great to have him back home. What a huge relief! He needed a meal and a good bath but apart from that it was as if he had never left. Spooky also got a big reception of hisses and growls from the other cats. I guess they missed him too.
Welcome back Spooky!

Spooky Missing - August 15 at 7:00pm
Spooky Found - August 20 10:00pm

Where are you Spooky?
We put his food dish on the front porch along with some cat treats hoping it would help him find his way back home. If anything it’ll keep him fed. Normally, we wouldn’t worry about Spooky, but he’s an indoor cat who has never been out of the house beyond the backyard.
If you’ve ever lost a pet you understand how frustrating it is to not know anything about where they are. After three days of Spooky missing, we finally got somewhere in our search late last night.
I looked out on the front porch around 11:30pm and noticed Spooky’s food dish was empty. I decided to go out and look around just incase Spooky had been by.
I went out with a flashlight looking in the porches and gardens of each house. I must have went in the right direction because after minutes I looked down the street and saw something sitting on the sidewalk looking at me. It was Spooky!
It was the weirdest feeling seeing him there all of a sudden. I couldn’t believe my eyes. As I walked up to him he ran up onto the front porch of a house. He was wet from the rain, dirty and scared.
It seemed as if he didn’t even know who I was. He started growling and meowing. I sat a few feet from him and tried to calm him down. I wanted to grab him but stopped myself.
After a few minutes Spooky ran past me down the porch to the sidewalk. He turned and looked at me once more before he ran, faster than I’ve ever seen him run, down the street an into the back lane. I followed as fast as I could but when I got to the back lane he was gone.
At least now I knew he was outside and in our area. Plus he was coming to his food dish. I went back home and told my wife what had happened and went back out in hopes to find him. I spent another two hours scouring the area for him. With no success, I figured Spooky wasn’t ready to come home just yet.
I put out some more food for Spooky, extra treats, catnip and his cat carrier and went to bed hoping tomorrow would be better.
]]>Some how he managed to get out of the house without us noticing. We spent the entire weekend looking for him all over the neighborhood. It’s as if he has disappeared. He was with us at dinner time on Friday night and when I came to feed the cats an hour or so later Spooky didn’t show up.

Our signs in the neighborhood asking people to call if they have seen Spooky.
It’s been a very upsetting weekend to say the least. We’ve started putting up posters and calling vets and animal shelters in the area. We hope he’s ok where ever he is. Spooky is an indoor cat and doesn’t know the world outside his house very well. We hope we find him or he finds us really soon!
The Humane Society has a helpful page for lost pets with some good tips on what to do when a pet goes missing. They also include a template for a poster to put up around your area which we used some ideas from.
We’ll keep searching for Spooky and hope he comes home soon.
]]>It’s cute to watch, but he always did it while we’re in the house so we only saw his back and not much else. This is the first time we saw him do it while we we’re outside looking in and it made for some funny pictures plus we could get a good look at his face and paws.
Here is Dax in action as he washes the window of our back door. Enjoy.

Spooky didn’t make it in any of the outtakes this time as he was cooperative with us, but Jasmine did since she really didn’t stay still for too long.
Take a look and enjoy our monthly collection of ‘happy accidents’.

A cat-tribute to the Beatles - Let it Purr
Had the Beatles been Cats the ‘Let It Be‘ album cover would have looked like this with Red as John Lennon, Gilbert as Paul McCartney, Blanche as Ringo Starr and Daisy as George Harrison.
Plus there would be a slight change in the album title.

No one could tell us what made it that way. Van Gogh’s previous owner could not afford his surgery, so I gently convinced him to give Van Gogh to me as was able to afford to help Van Gogh.
One must have a little money to keep these cats. They require annual medicals with vaccinations, emergencies, money for the best food, care, and toys. Lets not forget their toys for entertainment!
Van Gogh is and always was…a NUT! Having him around is like having a raccoon or a ferret. He gets into everything. He is very curious and mischievous. My younger cats liked him right away.

They still all play together, go out together, sleep together, eat together.
The small kitten is Jojo, a stray who all of us fell in love with right away. Jojo is about four months old now. Jojo and van Gogh like to play together a lot. It took a couple of weeks before Van Gogh would accept Jojo. I knew it was only a matter of time so I was patient with him.

We all live in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, Canada. We’re on a salt lake/marsh called Cow Bay Lake. My husband and I have had various cats on own. We have had two or three at a time. When we got married their were five cat and now we have seven. Jojo was an unexpected surprise.
This is van Gogh’s regular face. You can hardly tell he only has one eye because of the black markings and white line where it used to be. The Doctors sewed it up so neatly that you can hardly tell the difference. They did a great job.

Here is “Van Gogh yawning after an afternoon nap. One-eyed cats are often quite “nutty”, as the brain is mapped out a little different than others’. This allows even more room for curiosity and mischief! ”

This is Jojo the first morning after he was brought home, June 12th.
We found him crying like a lost baby outside in the ditch by our driveway in the dark of night! Who could leave a little baby kitty all alone like that? To this day we still do not know where he came from.
We live on a lake at the end of a road. We are the last house surrounded by woods. Could someone have driven to the end of the road, and just left him here? Who could do such a thing?
My husband suggested that he is feral, but where is the rest of his family, why was he all alone? Where is his mother?

We looked for more kittens, a mother, a box or bag, footprints, tire tracks, evidence, or answers, and found nothing, just a little tiny wild black kitten without a home.
We put out flyers with his photo and asked neighbors, but no one called or came to claim him. I have had him to the vet for various tests and needles and de-worming.
Jojo has brought new life into our family and we are happy that Little Jojo has joined our “Band of Cats.”
I guess Jojo is here to stay!
