Dax has an interesting thing he likes to do from time to time. He washes the windows. At least that is what it looks like to us.
It’s cute to watch, but he always did it while we’re in the house so we only saw his back and not much else. This is the first time we saw him do it while we we’re outside looking in and it made for some funny pictures plus we could get a good look at his face and paws.

Another big yawn from Dax
Our picture of the month for May 2008 is of Dax performing another one of his classic yawns and was featured in our post A Year of Cats - May 02. I know, it’s a cat yawning, big deal, right? But it’s really the way the picture was taken that makes it look cool. It fits well with the yawn. That why we picked this image for our monthly favourite. Enjoy.
Dax and Jade went to the vets the other day. Dax was fine, but Jade had a bladder infection. We weren’t surprised to hear that since she’s been urinating outside of her litter box.
We got some medicine for Jade, so we hope once she’s better she’ll go to the bathroom in her litter box again. If it’s a behavioral thing for Jade then it’ll be a bit more work to get her to use her litter box again.
If anyone has gone through something similar with their cat and has any advice to share we could certainly use some help in this area. We’ve searched around the net and got some tips.
Dax wants to play with Jade and she just isn’t interested as you can see in the photos. Poor Jade. Get better soon.

We’ve been very fortunate with a long stretch of sunny weather for April and the cats have taken full advantage of it. Jasmine and Dax shared some time enjoying the Sun, nuzzling and hanging out together. It was like watching ‘Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Fin cats’ with no worries, no place to be and enjoying the day!

After being cooped up for the past eight months Dax ventured out into the great outdoors. I left the back door open one afternoon to see what would happen. It was a beautiful sunny summer-like day and I decided to enjoy our great weather while having some lunch.
It didn’t take long. A few minutes later, Dax was at the back door. He seemed to be amazed at how much more space there is outdoors. He cautiously stepped out onto the back deck taking it a few inches at a time. He eventually made it al the way to the edge of the deck. I think he’s an outdoor-cat-wanna-be.
We’ll have to leave the back door open more often this season and see how accustomed the cats get to being outside. I’m sure they’ll love it.
Each cat comes out at their own pace until they feel safe outside of their protective home. Jasmine, needless to say, wastes no time and is out and down the deck steps rolling around on the patio and sniffing around trying to find a way out of the yard. Another wanna-be to say the least. She’s been out a few times already. She has no fear when it comes to being outside.
Dax will have to take some lessons from Jasmine on getting out more this year. Here’s Dax’s little adventure on the back deck.

Jade is usually hissing and hiding away most of the time. You’d think she was an anti-social little thing, but every once in a while she proves us wrong. Just the other day Jade nuzzled up to Dax as if they were soul mates.
It was a heart-warming moment that brought a tear to my eye. Jade: what a sweetheart of a Cat.
The best part was we actually got some pictures of the whole thing. This is the Jade we all know and love.

We had been having a run of beautiful Sunny days with unseasonably warm temperatures. I decided to take advantage of this warm spell and do some woodworking and a few other things in the backyard.
After a couple of hours I looked back at the house and noticed I had some company. I was being watched by two of our cats. It was Dax and Jasmine. They were very curious about why I was outside and what I was doing.
Normally I would have let them out to explore and sniff around for a while, but the yard was a bit of a mess and the noise from my power tools would probably scare them back inside.
So I let my little furry audience of two had to stay behind the safety of our back door and continue to be entertained by my back-yard activities.

Dax shared what seemed to be a very hi-key secret with Jasmine the other day. We tried to make it out but we had two things going against us. We weren’t close enough to hear and we didn’t speak ‘cat’. Figures eh?
Anyway, luckily for us Jade, our informant, speaks ‘cat’ fluently. Jade didn’t tell us what Dax said word for word but it was something about who really runs the show around here and the best way to get extra food when you need it.
It didn’t surprise us much as we pretty much knew all that stuff already. I guess Jasmine just needed a reaffirmation of sorts and Dax decided he was the cat for the job.
We’ve since let the cats continue with their little charade of dominance and independence. But we’ve tightened up on leaving any food laying about (especially Tuna) and maintained weekly updates from our informant.
Let’s see who is the boss next time Dinner is late. They’ll be putty in our hands, at least until their fed.
Now listen up, and pay attention cause I’m gonna say this once.
