Another big yawn from Dax

Our picture of the month for May 2008 is of Dax performing another one of his classic yawns and was featured in our post A Year of Cats – May 02. I know, it’s a cat yawning, big deal, right? But it’s really the way the picture was taken that makes it look cool. It fits well with the yawn. That why we picked this image for our monthly favourite. Enjoy.

We should make this a regular series on Band of Cats. I guess all the Sunny weather we’ve been getting lately has got the cats yawning more than usual. They’re not sleeping longer but the Sun could be wearing them out more.

Whatever the reason, here’s Spooky and his Sun-nap jumbo yawn. This yawn was during a very relaxing almost Zen-like afternoon Sun-bath/catnap. Spooky loved the moment and was in no hurry to go anywhere.

I’m convinced Spooky was completely stress-free after this catnap.

Here’s Jasmines’ entry into the world of impressive cat yawns. Let me tell ya, this is a good one. Our current record holder is Dax’s Big Yawn. But I think Jasmine might give Dax a run for his money with this performance.

Jasmine was having a good time rolling around and napping in the sun beams as they streamed through the back door one winter afternoon. Then it happened, not one yawn, but two!

Jasmine casually rolled on to her back and the rest was cat yawn history. There’s not much else I can say but Wow! Right-on Jasmine.

Dax is a great sleeper. He loves to sleep the afternoon away just as most cats do.

One of his favorite spots to crash is at the bottom of the scratch post on the carpeted base.

One early afternoon Dax did just that. He walked over to the scratch post and plopped down on the comfy base. There’s only room on the base to fit his head so his body stretches out along the carpeted floor.

Once he’s there he’s out for a few hours. It’s his big snooze for the day.

Most afternoons Dax takes his naps at the top of the stairs that leads into our bedroom. I guess you could say it’s one of his favorite spots to take a snooze.

Well, one day I decided to go up to get some pictures of Dax while he was napping in his favorite spot. As I was taking some photos, I got this neat sequence of him yawning just as he was waking up. I call it Dax’s Big Yawn. The look on his face in the last picture is just priceless.
