Here are six fun ideas to help include your cat in the Easter activities going on in your home this year. Whether it’s just you and your cat or your cat is part of a family trying some or all of these ideas will make Easter a lot more fun for both you and your cat.
You can try any of these ideas as we suggest or modify any one to your liking and make it your own. Let’s get started so you can get some fun activities planned before the Easter Bunny comes.
Easter Egg Puzzle Feeders
A fun idea is to create some simple Easter egg puzzle feeders for your cat. These eggs will appeal to your cat’s curiosity and especially their love of treats. Making them is simple and you can make as many as you like. All you need are a bunch of the plastic Easter egg surprise toys that are widely available around this time of year and a few of their favorite treats.
Place a few pieces of their treat inside an egg and close it up. You can roll them across the floor towards your cat to get their attention. Once they smell the treats inside, they’ll start to figure out how to open the egg. After a few pounces, the egg should open up for them and they’ll be rewarded with a tasty Easter treat!
Supervise your cat with this toy to ensure your cat doesn’t eat any of the plastic from the egg. If they start to chew on the plastic, then step in quickly and help them. Open the egg for them and give them the treat. Once they see how the egg opens, they should do better with the other eggs. But keep a careful watch over them just to be on the safe side.
Edible Cat Grass
Along with the main items that show up around Easter such as Easter eggs, little chicks and Easter baskets there is Easter Grass. The only problem is that these finely cut pieces of crinkly paper or plastic in bright colors are very tempting for your cat to eat. The last thing you need is a visit to the vet during Easter to treat your cat with a bowel obstruction.
The trend these days is to go natural. When you’re creating an Easter basket for your cat you can choose to fill it with a bed of catnip or cat grass. You can grow your own catnip from seed available online or at your local garden center.
There are Cat Grass seeds available online to help you get started growing your own varieties of Cat Grass including rye, barley and oat. Blends of Cat Grass and Catnip are also available online if you don’t have the time to grow them.
Your Cat will love getting Cat Grass or Catnip in their Easter Basket this Easter and you won’t have to worry about your Cat ingesting anything they shouldn’t.
There are also many artificial or fake plants available that are also safe for cats.
Cat Easter Toys
Another great idea is to get a few Easter themed toys for your cat to play with at Easter and beyond into the spring season. There are a few fun Easter Cats toys to choose from and most of them are inexpensive. They come in carrot, bunny and egg shapes.
Most of the Cat Easter Toys have cat nip in them although you may be able to find some toys without catnip. Cats typically have loads of fun playing with these toys on their own. If you would like a more interactive cat toy so you can play with your cat then a feathered cat toy would make an ideal choice.
If you decide to get an Easter themed Cat Toy for your cat this Easter, you will have lots of fun with your Cat; spend some quality time together and it will also give your cat lots of exercise. We have included a few Cat Easter Toys ideas below to help get you started.
Cat Easter Egg Hunt
Here is a fun traditional Easter idea that will cater to your cat’s instinct to hunt. Most Cats love to hunt and it really does not matter what they are hunting if there is a surprise or reward involved. To set-up a cat Easter egg hunt all you need to do is use the same Easter egg surprise toys mentioned in the Easter egg Puzzle Feeders idea above.
You can put whatever you like in the eggs. Catnip. Treats or dry cat food. Hide the eggs the same way you would for your kids. Make sure you do not hide the eggs for your cat in a cupboard or drawer as they obviously can open them.
Under the pillows on the couch, under beds, in non-breakable open containers, window ledges or behind furniture or other things on the floor are good spots. You can also hide a few eggs in their cat bed or on their cat tree. Any spot your cat can get to without too much trouble will be a good spot.
You will have lots of fun watching them walking around your place hunting for their Easter eggs. As they find an egg put it in a basket or suitable container or them and encourage them to keep hunting for more.
Once they have found all the eggs it time to play. Let them have an egg or two with the treat inside. You can open it up for your cat or give them an egg and see if they can open it up themselves. As usually make sure you supervise them with the eggs, so they do not chew off any plastic pieces.
Let them enjoy a few eggs at a time so they do not have too many at once. Your cat can enjoy a nice Easter treat each day for the next little while.
Cat Easter Dress Up
Some cat owners have cats that don’t mind being dressed up. If you are lucky enough to have a cat that doesn’t mind wearing things, then you can have some fun with your cat this Easter by dressing them up in a variety of things. If your cat doesn’t like to be dressed up but you dress them up anyway, then you will enjoy this Easter t-shirt.
There are a few things available to dress up your cat at Easter. The most popular are bunny ears. I’ve seen two types. The hat with bunny ear and the full outfit. Other items that are fun are collars, bandanas and bow ties.
Keep in mind your cat can get very warm wearing any of these items when you are dressing them up. A good rule of thumb is to dress them up for a few minutes. Take lots of pictures while they are dressed up. Then take everything off so they don’t get too hot.
This will also let them know that what you’re doing to them is only for a short time. If you’re pictures don’t turn out, then try again later in the day or the next day. Your cat’s health and well being is more important.
Cat Easter Gift
If you simply want to do something nice for your cat and spend some time with them this Easter, then an Easter gift from you would be a nice gesture. I’m sure your cat would really appreciate it. The sky is the limit as to what to get your cat.
It can be a new Cat Tree or something simple like a new treat. If you are on a budget then you should set an amount and stick to it before looking for your Cat’s Easter gift.
To help get you started we’ve put together a few ideas below. Take your time looking through them and pick out something you think your cat would enjoy. I’m sure your Cat will be happy whatever you decide to get them. Happy Easter shopping!
